President/CEO

 

Fred Mitchell, President/CEO of Community Action of Southern Indiana since 1998 is an innovative Human Service professional with more than four decades of experience in middle and senior level management. Mr. Mitchell is a graduate of Kentucky State University with a degree in History and Political Science, and the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work. His vast experience has included work in the settlement house movement, community development, government, and twenty five years in the Community Action network.

As president/CEO Mr. Mitchell’s entrepreneurial spirit moved the agency from two million dollars in program and services to a seven million dollar organization with innovative services such as its Single Parent Center and Project Phoenix designed to lift special populations out of poverty and toward economic sufficiency.

Mr. Mitchell formerly served as the first African American Executive of the 100 year old Wesley Community House, and gained recognition as a community development leader. He is listed among “Notable Kentucky African Americans,” and The Louisville Courier Journal named Mr. Mitchell as one of its “Community Bridge Builders.”

Mr. Mitchell’s community involvement includes his service as a board member for the Region 10, Workforce Board, Canaan Community Development Corporation, and the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He formerly served as a member of the St. Elizabeth Maternity Center Board of Directors.

He has also served as an Aldermanic Aide, served as an elected representative to the United Way Council of Agency Executives, and appointed as an observer to the White House Conference on Aging among his many community activities.
