A Story from a First Time Homebuyer
Written by Chloe Chaffin, Executive Services Intern
The first-time homebuyers program helps individuals and families achieve the dream of homeownership. The program aids in helping to make the purchase of a first home less stressful. Through education on the process of home buying, showing the participants what to expect and what to do. Fully encompassing the process of home buying to ensure the individuals and families have all the tools they need to feel confident in their first home.
Over the program's course, it has helped several individuals and families purchase their first homes. This testimony is from just one of the families that was able to purchase their first home because of this impactful program.
“We lived in apartments our whole life, so for my mom to be able to get her own home was a really big deal for us. Especially after she had gone through the first-time homebuyer’s program and worked at it for months, it was something my mom had always wanted and had tried very hard to achieve when we were younger. I remember when she used to take us driving around neighborhoods looking for houses. We would drive everywhere in Jeffersonville, New Albany, just anywhere houses were.”
“So, for her to finally be able to have a house when she's in her 40s/50s is a really big deal. She really enjoys and loves being able to finally have that house after she's worked so hard to get it. And I’m really proud of her for being able to achieve something she's wanted for so long. Even though we're older now, it's just nice to see her so happy and confident thanks to the first-time homebuyer’s program.”
After the impact Community Action of Southern Indiana (CASI) had on the family, one of the family members, upon seeing a back-to-school flyer, went out and bought a bunch of school supplies to donate back to the community.
“It’s a full circle moment for me to be able to give back to you guys, after everything you have done for us. And I’m really grateful for everything you guys do within the community.”
